As many of you have heard, there was a fatal rollover van crash on I-10 this last Wednesday, June 3, in which 6 African refugees (4 Burundians and 2 Congolese) have died. Eleven remain at University Medical Center in fair to critical condition. PCIC has been an active partner with the Tucson African Refugee Community for the past two years and this tragedy strikes us hard as well.
We are humbly honored to assist them where we can in their time of great need. The African Community Organization representative, Edward Hakizimana (Burundi) has alerted us to a way we all can help. First, a bank account has been set up to receive much-needed financial donations that will make funeral arrangements possible. We at PCIC ask that you send what you can to:
“Donation of Tragic Accident Victims”
Account #1230751
Pima Federal Credit Union
P.O. Box 50267 (3730 N. Stone Ave.)
Tucson, AZ 85703
Phone: 887-5010
If you are unable to give money, there are other ways you can assist these stricken families. Please contact Edward Hakizimana at 628-0540.
A memorial service is being planned for the near future – we will announce as soon as we know. In the meantime your thoughts and prayers for the accident victims and their entire community are much needed and appreciated.
